|General information about the lecture|
The goal of this course is to equip students with the tools and methods so that they can i) read and understand a scientific paper, ii) relate a paper/topic to the relevant literature iii) write their own research paper, and iv) present their paper in front of other students.
We will work on these objectives using the topic of “Sustainable Finance”. Sustainable finance, broadly understood as long-term oriented financial decision-making that integrates environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations, has been attracting increasing attention in recent years, not only from specialists, but also in mainstream finance circles. Sustainable finance connects to the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to guide the transition towards a sustainable and inclusive economy.
The course offers an overview and framework of the central themes and mechanisms of sustainable finance. We will discuss the theoretical foundations for corporate ESG policies and actions and investors’ preferences regarding such policies and actions, and how such policies and actions affect firm performance and investor reactions.
